For our recent weekend away I picked up these Sun Cups by Seth Ellis Chocolatier. They are chocolate cups, like peanutbutter cups, only filled with sunflower butter.
According to the label they are so many things: organic, gluten-free, tree nut free, kosher and compost-able! (The wrapper I mean.) And I think the dark chocolate ones are even vegan. So many things in such a tiny package!
I'm always intrigued by things that boast multiple "free of" foods because I want to know what they taste like and if they are any good so that's why I wanted to try these.
Here are the nutrition facts, which, compared to Reese's peanut butter cups isn't so hot.
For comparisons, Reese's peanut butter cups have: 210 calories, 110 fat calories, 13g fat, 4.5g saturated fat, 5mg cholesterol, 150 mg sodium, 1g fiber, 21g sugar, 5g protein. Although their pros and cons kind of cancel each other out, just goes to show ya, organic isn't always better!
Despite the kind-of-expensive-for-a-candy price tag ($1.99) they were really good though and I'd buy them again. In fact I have bought them again, repeatedly. Plus it says "gluten-free" on the front of the wrapper; gotta support the gluten-free!
I found them to be a bit drier/less greasy than the peanut butter cups but as far as taste, we couldn't tell the difference at first.
Even though I told him before hand that it wasn't a peanut butter cup, the Mister gobbled it up and declared it delicious. When I told him again that it was a sunflower butter cup, he looked at me confused for a bit and then said he hadn't tasted a difference. Of course the next time we ate them, he said that they did taste different so go figure.
Of course they taste a bit different and slightly less sweet and salty than regular peanut butter cups, but to me the slight difference in texture is a bit more noticeable than the different taste.
So in conclusion, they were good and get a thumbs up from me and the Mister!
