Jason's Deli is probably one of my favorite gluten-free places to go eat. Their food is mostly fresh and organic and you can usually find something genuinely healthy and nutritious to eat.
At our house we love it so much that the Mister and I even had them cater our wedding! The big selling point for us was, of course, that they had good gluten-free options, since I have several family members with intolerance. And as you know it didn't have to just be gluten-free, it needed to be safe from any danger of cross contamination.
Since we talked directly to the manager about this issue and he gave us his assurances, we were able to rest easy.
Every meal was individually packaged and the gluten-free meals were even specially marked. From what I heard, our guests loved the fresh food and most importantly, neither me nor any of my gluten-intolerant family got sick!
For a while now Jason's Deli has even been offering sandwiches with gluten-free bread and I had had it before, I finally got a chance properly document my sandwich experience!
The meal I ate was the manager's special which is half a sandwich, a bowl of soup, vegetables or fruit (I picked fruit, which comes with yogurt), chips and a pickle.
(Yes my picture is dark because it was night time and we came here for a late dinner after attending a very special event!)
Even though it's a half sandwich, this is a very generous and filling meal.
As you can see, everything comes individually wrapped, even the pickle! For this special you can pick any sandwich on the regular menu, just be sure to specify that you want it gluten-free.
I chose the turkey Ruben, which comes toasted. On one occasion my mom chose a different sandwich that didn't come toasted and she didn't enjoy it too much. It seems then that not every sandwich is toasted. Gluten-free bread as you know is quite picky and seems to taste better toasted, but I'm not sure if you can specifically request that your bread be toasted here. Hey it never hurts to ask, right?
I should specify that it appears that not all locations offer gluten-free sandwich bread, but I think you'll have pretty good luck if you're in some sort of major city. And even if your location doesn't offer gluten-free sandwich bread, there are still many healthy and filling salads you can eat that will leave you satisfied.
The sandwich itself is layered thick with sliced turkey and sauerkraut, which I know might not be up every one's alley but I really liked it. I think it adds just enough briny flavor. The bread is also very good and holds up to the hefty sandwich without being the least bit crumbly.
For me this is an A plus meal for anywhere, anytime. The bonus is that since Jason's Deli is a national chain, you can usually find one in most major cities!
The big bonus for me and what really sells this to me is this: no cross-contamination! I have never gotten sick at Jason's Deli and it's one of those places where I can eat with absolutely no worry.
