There is much controversy about soy.
Some people/doctors/scientists expound the many benefits of soy, that it's a healthy protein, good for your heart, that it's a good alternative for people with lactose intolerance...etc.
Others swear it is a dangerous food.
The truth of the matter is soy is one of the top allergens, right up there with wheat, eggs, milk and shellfish.
Is it a coincidence then that soy happens to be one of the most popular genetically modified foods? If you think about it soy or soy products, like oil, is in practically everything.
What is not a coincidence is that the foods that are being tampered with the most are turning out to be the most dangerous and reaction inducing.
Regardless of the controversy, I have a different reason for avoiding soy.
In her book The Unhealthy Truth, Robyn O'brien uncovered a startling fact: animals with one-stomach digestive systems (example: humans, pigs) have a hard time digesting soy. In fact we don't digest it.
Soy actually ends up fermenting in our intestines leading to bloating (the dreaded belly pooch), discomfort, gas, and irritable bowel-like symptoms.
So if you are not allergic to soy but maybe have those symptoms, try reducing your intake of soy. Soy is in so many things that it might not be possible to avoid it entirely, but you might feel relief reducing or eliminating entirely your intake of straight soy and processed soy products like tofu, milk, cheese, and edamame.
