Tennis star Novak Djokovic recently discovered that he was allergic to gluten and thus changed to a gluten-free lifestyle.
There is an article however that entertains and refutes the idea that somehow this athlete's recent winning streak could partly be due to his change in diet.
To me it is evident that the author didn't do his research so I want to clarify some points because frankly it is articles like this that cause so much misinformation about Celiac disease, food allergies and gluten-free living.
First of all, a "gluten-free diet" isn't just a fad diet but rather a lifelong life style change.
Second of all a change in "diet" CAN have that effect on a person.
Think about it: when you are allergic to a food, it becomes poison to your body and your body becomes consumed with battling that poison instead of other things like digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Whether this athlete was in the dormant or early stages of the disease, his body was still being affected to the point that he wasn't at his full potential. But once you cut out what is poison to the body, your body slowly begins to regenerate and reach it's full potential once again.
The fact that this athlete was a star before is a testament to his sheer will; the fact that he is even better after the change in lifestyle is a testament to the benefits of a gluten-free lifestyle!
If you can, go and read the article and then please post your thoughts on living a gluten-free lifestyle.
