Garlic is great for cooking but it can also serve medicinal purposes.
Garlic is natures anti viral, anti fungal and antibiotic, which means you can use it anytime you have a cold, flu or fungus.
Ever since I could remember, my grandpa would take garlic whenever he felt he was going to get sick. It was a remedy he swore by: a glass of warm milk and two cloves of garlic, cut up into tiny slivers and swallowed with the milk. And he never, in his old age, got anything more than a mild cold in the winter season.
Here are some more remedies that garlic is good for:
- For garlic to be effective in preventing or bettering colds and flu's, you must eat 2 or 3 fresh cloves. The only down side is that garlic does give you a certain smell.
- Rubbing a fresh garlic clove on minor skin irritations, like mosquito or insect bites, can also help reduce and soothe inflammation. Make sure to clean the area first.
- Garlic mullein drops, sold in health food stores, is a good solution for inner ear problems. Since it is an antibacterial it is very effective in killing infections. An alternate remedy is to stuff garlic cloves in ears and leave in over night, holding in place with cotton and first aid tape. But of course the drops are much easier and more comfortable!
- Garlic mullein drops can also get rid of fungus. Because common toenail fungus prescriptions have been thought to cause liver damage even some doctors discourage their patients from taking it. The only other option given is to wait it out. But having a fungus can compromise your immune system but for most people toe nail fungus is embarrassing and waiting it out can take years or decades. Instead, apply a drop or two to the affected area with a cotton tipped swab after a shower and let air dry for a few minutes. You will see your toe nail fungus start to look better in a few days, the new nail start to grow in a few weeks and the dead diseased nail fall off in a few months. It will take some time (about a year or so) for it to completely go away but you will see it get better in a matter of days. (I have personally seen this.)
So I hope these uncommon remedies can help cure what ails you.
As always do your research before or talk to a doctor or holistic expert.
